World of Contentcraft

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Been thinking about my current opinion about this game, so again, I have posted it on forums and copied here.

I have been playing world of warcraft since ït’s very launch (over 4 years by now) and been enjoying it most of the time. My main is a Field Marshal paladin that has seen every single patch of this game and it’s progress - it’s speeding up, we could say.

Back in pre-tbc, I got my field marshal rank during the patch where the PvP ranks came, or the patch later, I am not sure about that, I also done a little PvE and was lucky to have a guild tolerant enough to give a ret paladin bonereaver’s edge (Back then the top 2h sword, from Ragnaros).

Now I am getting to the point; apart from the AQ patch where I got Earthstrike, Windshear cape and Kalimdor’s revenge, I haven’t replaced any gear for FOURTEEN months, and my gear still was the top, or equal to the top pve gear from AQ 40, which if you don’t count naxxramas, was pretty much the best accessible gear back then, and as not many guilds got far in nax, even over the months, AQ 40 set was pretty much the best thing that people have been running around in. It was a little bit better than my rank 13 set, but very close to equal.

These fourteen months were the months where I had the most fun in World of Warcraft during the entire 4 + years I spent on this game. Why? I simply didnt feel like I HAD TO PLAY THE GAME. With good gear, and slow patches that were on distant horizon, I didn’t have to worry about what instance or battleground I gotta farm to be top gear again. During these 14 months, I was doing battlegrounds, world pvp, social events, everything that was fun, all purely for fun, and not for the purpose of me getting a gear upgrade.

However, when TBC came, the real sprint started. Seasons were coming every couple of months, and I started to feel like I HAVE TO FARM THE HONOR and have to gain the rating. There was no fun in that. Mind that this doesn’t apply only to PvP… I would say that with the current achievement system this applies to PvE way more than PvP… but I will get to that…

Anyhow, gear replacing is of course right, and keeps you entertained in the game, gives you something to do, of course. But DOES IT HAVE TO KEEP COMING FASTER AND FASTER? I am doing nothing else than replacing gear, nothing else I tell you. Pre-TBC speed of new content was fine.. this is getting ridiculous.

Lets look at this thing:

Season 3 duration : 7 months, 1 Week

Season 5 duration : 4 months, 1 week

That is a ridiculous speed up, and i am only comparing TBC with WotLK, I will get to compare it with vanilla soon.

So yeah. Everyone was happily replacing his tiers or gladiator sets and never realised how repetetive was this game getting, more likely, it was getting more ADDICTING. Finally i got to the next point. Nothing much to say about it. Obviously, the more the players are addicted and urged to replace their virtual epics, the lesser chance is that someone quits the game. Smart move, blizzard.

In WotLK, this addicting urge and the feeling that you have to play the game has gotten even more ridiculous! Dailies, which already were in tbc, have grown into a whole new dimension! The limit of the dailies has gotten up to 25 per day, and the dailies are everywhere! Some people even log in into the game every day just because they feel urged to do dailies and log off!

Here is our next comparation: Amount of patches-out of that content patches, and the duration of expansions.

World of Warcraft Vanilla

39 patches, out of that 12 major, out of that 3 brought new high-end content to the game.

Duration: 2 years and 3 months.

World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade

27 patches, out of that 4 major, out of that 3 bought new high-end content to the game. (However, notice that TBC had first four tiers of raiding implemented at start already and were sorted by attunements).

Duration : 1 year and 11 months.

World of Warcraft : Wrath of the Lich King

So far:

12 patches, out of that 1 major and content-bringing. Only two more are planned, and then again, a new expansion hits(Already, lol?)

Duration : 7 Months so far

I think I have made myself pretty much clear about this. Please, let us have fun in this game again. Do not make us feel like we have to play it.

A little acheivement development

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Hi again, I should probably mention that I’m an achievement madman before… well.. I love them, and I was bored of all these casual achievements or achievemens that you got to do in groups of 10/25 people and made a few of my own ones. I have had the idea of a new crazy achievement category, say it went live, patch notes would look like this:

Crazy Achievements are coming to Azeroth!

New incredibly hard challenges are awaiting the achievement hunters in patch 3.2! These mostly solo only achievements are extremely difficult to complete, are worth 25 achievement points each and most of them will individually reward you with a non-combat item. Each of these achievements found in the Crazy category is also found in the category it normally fits in, but they are in golden dragon frame (Similiar to elite monsters) to indicate that they are the ones that require special attention to complete.

Examples:
_________________________________________________________________________________

The Argent rampage

Defeat 10 argent champions (One of each faction) in a row at the argent tournament without healing up.

Title reward : The Cavalryman

Youre not getting this one

While the opponent team in Alterac Valley holds all graveyards, personally assault the graveyard in your base.

The daily bread with butter

Complete 25 daily quests each day for 10 days in a row

Not as easy as you thought, eh?

Solo Onyxia with equipment of max item level of 100.

Or

Two-man onyxia with equipment of max item level of 40.

Reward : Onyxian drakeling

Ever heard of speed runs?

Within three hours, enter every single instance in World of Warcraft without using summons, hearthstone, or any other teleport mechanic.

Ironman was weaksauce

In Warsong Gulch, hold the flag for ten minutes, then get a killing blow on the enemy flag carrier, personally return the flag, and score.

I walk alone

With walk mode turned on, hike from Darkshore to Silithus without turning walk mode off.

Title reward : Hiker

Now that’s a good hiding spot!

At time of 18:00 to 20:00, while not grouped In Ironforge or Orgrimmar, kill 15 guards within 5 seconds and then survive 30 minutes in the zone without dying (And stealthing).

Reward : Infiltrator’s tabard

A little self confident, aren’t we?

While the opposing team holds at least two bases in Eye of the storm, grab the flag, get 10 killing blows and then visit each of the four bases without dropping the flag or dying.

Why are you doing this to me?

Earn exalted status with The Frostborn, and then solo the chess event in Karazhan.

Title reward : The cold mastermind

My imagination of WOLTK Ret tree

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Im prolly gonna get flamed here but hey who cares :P

I tried to make it a non-imbalanced, but a viable (PvP!!!!) tree, hence blizz said they were gonna sort mana issues, i added two mana talents there.

http://www.war-tools.com/t50232.html

(Aswell notice the Eye for an Eye improvement!)

Oh.. and for the ones afraid of keyloggers, ill copy paste what i made here.

1) Improved Eye for an Eye (Requires 30 points in retribution talents) (Requires 2 points in eye for an eye) Causes your Eye for an Eye to silence your opponent for 2/4 sec.

2) Surge Of Light (Requires 40 points in retribution talents) Increases your stats by 1/2/3/4/5%. Also gives you a 4/8/12/16/20% chance to restore mana equal to 100% of your level on melee hits.

3) Improved Crusader Strike (Requires 45 points in retribution talents) (Requires 1 point in Crusader Strike) Causes your Crusader Strike to drain mana from your opponent, equal to 5/10% of damage caused.

4) Divine Infusion (Requires 45 points in retribution talents) Gives you a 4/7/10% chance on melee hit to enter a divine state, interrupting spellcasts of opponents that are struck by you and making them unable to cast spells of that school for 4 seconds. Lasts 5 secs. 20 sec cooldown.

5) The Oath (Requires 50 points in retribution talents) The paladin starts to channel holy power into his target, instantly pulling it to him and causing 100% of weapon damage each 3 seconds, increasing by 20% every tick. The target is unable to move away from the paladin for the duration of the spell. During the channel, the paladin doesn’t feel fear or remorse and can’t be stopped unless killed. Lasts 6 seconds. (45 sec cooldown)
